Troopers conducting speed enforcement on I-84 in Willington conducted a traffic stop near exit 70 over the weekend, when a vehicle was spotted driving 90 mph in a 65 mph zone. During the subsequent stop, troopers said “the driver and passenger both appeared nervous and that neither of them owned of the vehicle or had any form of identification.”
Police said that the male driver and a female passenger both attempted to identify themselves using false names and dates of birth in an attempt to dupe them.
According to police officials, troopers determined that the man - later identified as East Hartford resident Rohan Naraine - was driving under the influence of drugs, and he proceeded to fail multiple Standardized Field Sobriety Tests. Further investigation determined that Naraine and his passenger, Manchester resident Kayla Freeman, were in possession of heroin, needles and crack-rock cocaine. Both were arrested at the scene.
The 61-year-old Naraine was charged with reckless driving, operating a motor vehicle under the influence of drugs, operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license, criminal impersonation and interfering with an officer. Naraine also had two active arrest warrants out from the Office of Probation and the Wethersfield Police Department. Naraine was held in lieu of $25,000 bond and is due to appear in Rockville Superior Court this week.
Freeman, 30, was charged with two counts of criminal possession of narcotics, possession of drug paraphernalia, criminal impersonation and interfering with an officer. It was later determined that Freeman also had two active arrest warrants from the New Britain Police Department and Newington Police Department. She’s being held in lieu of $210,000 bond and is also scheduled to appear in court this week.
